Hopefully the day will go better than it started... Internet connection wouldn't work from the hotel, the drain wouldn't work in the bathroom, and the bizarrest thing happened with the alarm clock.
Volunteers started to arrive at HQ at 5am. I set the hotel alarm clock for 4:30am. The alarm went off; I got up, and the clock said 5:30. OMG. WTF??? I checked the time it was set for and it said 4:30. And I thought, "Nobody's going to believe this." I got dressed, picked up my cellphone and was headed out the door all ready to be chastised for being an hour late. But the cellphone said... 4:45am. I dunno. My hotel room is clearly possessed.
So, the place is relatively quiet right now. Just volunteers trickling in to take door hangers out. There are about 15 people here.
I checked Eric's "contact Eric" and info@ mailboxes first thing. There were a few well-wishes in there which is always nice.
More later... I want to update the website.
7:33 (Eric Standard Time): I forgot to mention, I'm in the Corning office. There are 2 big offices, one medium sized office, and 3 little offices.
I updated the website. I added a button where you can report back to us that you voted for Eric. Nobody's clicked on it yet. Hmm...
It's very quiet in the office. Obviously, no phone calls being made yet. The crew was sent out with door hangers. Somebody brought me coffee (bless them!) Soon it will be time for me to check Eric's mail again. Some people are reporting back on how the door hangers went--no complaints.
9:10 am Eric Standard Time, or t-minus 12 hours til polls close.
I really need to find a bathroom. The mayor of Corning (first Dem mayor in like 40 years) just walked in and said according to his exit polls, Eric is winning 6 to 2. And the whole world knows this because Frank has this booming voice that sounds like he's speaking through a PA system, but it's just him. Ann, who's running this office, is having a hip problem today. She's limping around. Poor thing. She's been living in a hotel since September. I did have one issue question in Eric's email that I answered, so I guess I'm being somewhat useful. Somebody's got to do it though. Everyone else is going to have sore feet and sore voices after today. I'm going to have a sore butt.
10:27am EST Tom Rindaldo and Janet are heading out to do visability with a giant Eric Massa sign. Looks like fun. It's quiet again. I might take a run down to the Massa office (a few doors down) and see what's up over there. People are talking about the over calling. It's true. We do call enough to annoy people. But maybe if people actually thought for themselves and voted, this wouldn't be necessary! Just got back from the Massa office. It feels weird walking out of there, knowing that after tonight, I won't be going there anymore. I can't imagine what it's like for people that actually worked there day in and day out rather than just visiting for meetings like me.
